An excellent work on this terrible conflict. Well balanced, from all belligerents as well as civilians caught in the crossfire of a civil and anti-colonial conflict. It covers the ANZAC contingent well.

 An excellent film by Martin Walsh. Gives a good account of this battle. It was good to get the Vietnamese side as well.

This volume which I picked up in South Korea of all places, disscusses the Imperial campaign against the Boer insurgents. It also covers the Canadian, as well as the Australian and New Zealand units sent to assist the mother country.

Australia's coming of age mirrors that of Canada. Of the conflicts Australia was involved in, it was only Vietnam, and Malaysia where Canada did not take part.

This is a good volume covering the Australian involvement in most 20th century conflicts.

Singapore was the major British base in South East Asia. The garrison was made up of British, British Indian Army, Australian and colonial troops.

After the Japanese cut off the water supply, the garrison was forced to surrender. It was the worst defeat the British ever suffered.

When I returned to Canada, my father had acquired an Imperial Japanese Army helmet. Someone thought it had been a Soviet Union helmet and had painted a peace symbol on it.
When I looked at it, all I could think of is some poor, scared, angry young boy who was told to die for his emperor fighting against the largest allied force ever assembled. And the face I saw was the face of my two older Japanese sons.

Later on, ANZAC forces fought in the Pacific campaign

and even later on they fought in Korea and Vietnam.
Further actions Australian and New Zealand troops have been involved with include the Gulf War in 1991, Operation Restore Hope in Somolia in 1993, East Timor, Iraq 2003 and Afganistan 2001
